Blog June 17, 2025

For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit (2 Peter 1:21 ESV).

To discover how church members around the world currently view Ellen G. White, the Global Church Member Survey asked participants how much they agreed with the Church’s belief that Ellen White’s writings are the result of the spiritual gift of prophecy.

Beliefs About Ellen White’s writings as the Result of the Spiritual Gift of Prophecy

In 2018, 1% strongly disagreed, 0.8% disagreed, 6.4% were not sure, 23.2% agreed, and 68.5% strongly agreed that Ellen G. White’s writings are the result of the spirit of prophecy. The numbers were similar in 2023: 1.2% strongly disagreed, 1.1% disagreed, 5.2% were not sure, 23.7% agreed, and 68.8% strongly agreed.

Conclusion
The Global Church Member Survey results reveal a generally strong affirmation of Ellen G. White’s prophetic role and the spiritual value of her writings among Seventh-day Adventists worldwide. While the overall levels of agreement remain high, slight shifts over the years—particularly in wholehearted acceptance—invite further reflection and engagement. In addition, disparities in access to her writings and familiarity with her identity across regions underscore the importance of continued efforts in translation, distribution, and education. As the Church moves forward, understanding and nurturing this foundational aspect of Adventist identity will remain essential.
